Agathos Ministries

"Agathos" is a Greek word that means something that is good in its nature, meaning moral goodness, but also more. Agathos goodness is also beneficial in its effect. So if something is morally right, even Scripturally sound, but it does not produce a beneficial effect, then it is not Agathos goodness.

Agathos Ministries is a major step of obedience for me. God has shown me the kindness and blessing of bringing many lessons my way. With study of His Word, learning from a variety of teachers, education programs, seminars and retreats, books, experience and investing myself in prayer seeking His Truth - I've arrived at a level of understanding of certain issues that others have found helpful in their Christian walk and their day-to-day lives.

For years I've been content to live out the principles I've learned and teach them to a handful of people who attend my classes. God has shown me, though, that I've been given a gift that was meant to be shared, and that it is right that I should share what He's taught me. Since I know the right thing to do, not to do it would be sin, so I'm stepping out in obedience to see if my Lord's churches are intersted in what He's given me to teach.

While my faith in my God is absolute, I admit that I remain a little uncertain about how my messages will be received by our Christian Family. Despite having a personal relationship with the Almighty God, our Father in Heaven, we are still very human. Pastors and leaders know this all too well. Nonetheless, I am willing to step out in front even though it will make me a target. I am willing to share the practical lessons I've learned, and perhaps those lessons will help others as they have helped me and the handful that have learned these principles.

As an example, "Dawn" had suffered from depression her entire life. Her childhood was difficult, and as an adult the emotions that plagued her as a youth followed her into her 30s. She had a husband, kids, home and life that she said were wonderful, but she still felt depressed and did not understand why.

She was told for years to "give it to God" and, alternatively, to "exercise your Will." Both can be good sounding advice. "Let go and let God" is easy enough to say, but how does one actually go about doing that? Endless prayer, group prayer, asking God to take it, and trying to "let it go" never helped because as spiritual as it sounds, exactly how was she supposed to do that?

As for "exercise your Will," that guidance wasn't much more specific. Simply to "choose" to no longer be depressed sounded like good advice, after all, she could "do all things" and she is "more than a conqueror" and she could "resist the devil," but when it came down to practical process, she simply did not know what to do and no one seemed to be able to tell her.

Finally, she was ready to give up and go see a doctor to get medicated for her depression. She had resigned herself to the idea that "God can work through doctors" and she would let her mood rest in whatever chemical her doctor gave her. However, before she made the appointment, she was suddenly given the answer in one night that changed her life!

She learned that God designed emotions, even the hopelessness that lead to her depression. It was all part of God's plan, but WE use God's design wrong - that's why we get stuck. On that night she learned to TRUST that God's designed the system right, and if she had EVER been happy or excited, that she obviously had the ability to do so. She learned some simple, practical techniques that started her on her road to joy.

Immediately, her life was transformed. She learned that God created the system to work a certain way, and all she had to do was do things God's way. When she learned how to "think on these things" properly, to stand and walk and move according to how God engineered the human body, to rely on the Spirit of God and her own spirit in concrete ways, practicing these skills over a few weeks, she became the master of her depresson rather than its slave. Her emotions gave way to a stronger Soul and Spirit, and the Fruit of the Spirit manifested in her much more fully.

Now, when someone tells her (or she hears a person tell someone else) to "Give it to God" she knows the simple, practical "secrets" of how one walks in total cooperation with God's Word and God's design. She has been able to take the advice beyond "moral goodness" to Agathos Goodness. Now, not only does she understand the "rightness" of the answer, she understands how the benefit is grasped.

That's the key of Agathos Ministries: God's Truth, unpacked and broken down for ready application. We've all heard the saying "knowledge is power," but we also know that knowledge is only power when it can be used and it is then put into action.

God's Word lays the foundation. The Word says that God created the heavens and the earth, so we know that it was designed in love and crafted with genius beyond anything we can conceive. The Word says He made Man, so not only does the same genius apply to us, but we were originally designed in His Image! When we make the assumption that the Bible is absolutely True, then that leads to all sorts of questions that we ought to be asking - like "why did God design us to feel hopelessness."

There are short versions and partial discussions of each that can be taught in sermon format, and longer, more indepth and practical lessons that are better suited for retreats. Each link provides the information to make some decisions, and if you have any additional questions, please email me.

Statement of Belief

God's Truth is more important than anything we believe.

All Truth is God's Truth, and all True Principles must be consistently applied.

There is One God and only One God who exists simultaneously as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ is 100% God and 100% Man, who was Crucified for the Sins of all humankind, and no man comes to the Father, but through Him.

The Holy Spirit indwells all True Christians.

The Bible is the Word of God in its original manuscript form, and we should use the original languages whenever the English translations are ambiguous.

Salvation is a free gift from God, and we can do nothing to earn it. All we can do is align ourselves with God's design for salvation by accepting that the work was finished on the Cross.

Good works can accomplish nothing to earn Salvation, but one who is saved by God will naturally manifest good works and service as a result of a complete realization of all the God has done for us. A lack of desire to obey or do good may be evidence of a heart that may not be truly in touch with God.

God will judge, and there will be a Second Coming of Jesus Christ. While the timing of Jesus' return cannot be precisely known, all will be face to face with God at any possible moment, either during life or a moment after death.
